How this service works
Returns European Central Bank reference rates through frankfurter.dev: one base currency against the symbols you name, each with the value date the rate belongs to. Optionally a comparison date is fetched too and the change per currency is computed in percent, so a move is visible without a second call. Cross rates between two non-euro currencies are derived through the base and marked as derived.
Output
Returns a JSON object with the base currency, one or more target currency rates each labeled with their ECB value date, and optionally percentage change values if a comparison date was requested. Cross rates between two non-euro currencies are flagged as derived (computed through EUR as the intermediary).

It is ideal for compliance or reporting contexts that require ECB-sourced data, and for deriving cross rates between non-EUR pairs in a single request.
Side effects
- Unsupported or misspelled currency code returns an error or missing entry
- Dates falling on ECB non-publication days (weekends, holidays) may return no rate
- Comparison date equal to value date yields 0% change but no error
- Network or upstream frankfurter.dev outage returns a 5xx error
- Requesting a very old historical date beyond the ECB data archive may return empty results
