How this service works
Search the national open data portal of France (data.gouv.fr) by keyword, or fetch one dataset by id: title, publishing organization, last modified date where the portal gives one, number of files and the official link, under the portal's licence terms (a dataset's own licence is on its official page). Uncached: 404, not charged, fetched within about a minute.
Output
A JSON response with an array of matching datasets, each including the dataset ID, title, publishing organization, last modified date, number of resource files, and a direct link to the dataset page on data.gouv.fr. Also includes the total result count, the query used, the source portal (data.gouv.fr / Etalab), country (France), licence information, and a fetchedAt timestamp.
Example use cases
Finding French climate policy datasets
“Can you search data.gouv.fr for datasets related to 'plan climat' and list what's available, including who published them and how many files each has?”
Fetching a specific French dataset by ID
“I have the ID '67377b46b034c8d8c3c40aff' for a French open dataset — can you pull up its full details including title, organization, and official link from data.gouv.fr?”
Research on French transport open data
“Look up open datasets about public transport on France's national open data portal and tell me what organizations have published data recently.”

Endpoint
GEThttps://api.maxwellinternational.ai/v1/gov/fr/open-data?utm_source=zero.xyzWhen to prefer
Choose this endpoint when you need to search or look up datasets specifically from France's official national open data portal (data.gouv.fr / Etalab). It is preferable over generic web search when you need structured, authoritative dataset metadata (title, organization, modification date, file count, link) directly from the French government catalogue. Use sibling endpoints for other national portals (Australia, Austria, EU, US, Germany).
Side effects
- 404 returned when dataset ID does not exist — not charged
- No results returned for obscure or misspelled keywords
- Dataset metadata may lag behind the portal's actual state if recently updated
- Licence terms shown cover catalogue metadata only; each dataset's own licence is on its official page
- Response latency may reach ~1 minute for uncached results
