How this service works
UK company register (Companies House): by company number or name. Returns name, number, status, type, incorporation and cessation dates, registered office address, SIC industry codes, previous names, accounts and confirmation statement due dates, and liquidation, insolvency and charges flags. Officers and persons with significant control are left out (personal data). Use it for KYC and supplier checks. Companies House data.

A JSON object (or array for name searches) containing: company name, company number, company status (e.g. active, dissolved), company type, incorporation date, cessation date if applicable, registered office address, SIC industry codes, previous names, accounts due date, confirmation statement due date, and boolean flags for liquidation, insolvency, and registered charges. Officers and persons with significant control are excluded.

Use this endpoint when you need authoritative UK company data directly from the Companies House register — particularly for KYC, supplier vetting, or compliance workflows. Prefer it over general web search when you need structured fields like SIC codes, incorporation dates, insolvency flags, or registered addresses. For Norwegian companies use the sibling Brønnøysund endpoint instead. Note that officer and PSC (persons with significant control) data are not included.
Side effects
- Company number not found: returns empty or 404-style response
- Invalid company number format (not 8 alphanumeric characters): rejected by input validation
- Name search returns no matches if the name fragment is too short or too obscure
- Name search may return many partial matches requiring further filtering
- Rate limiting or payment failure may prevent the call from completing
- Dissolved or struck-off companies may have incomplete or missing fields
