Choose this endpoint when you need to run ad-hoc SQL analytics on large flat files (CSV or JSON up to 50 MB) without provisioning a database, and you want pay-per-scan pricing at $0.01 per 100 MB. Prefer it over in-memory solutions when file size exceeds local memory, and over full warehouse setups when you need one-shot queries without infrastructure overhead.
Side effects
- Non-SELECT SQL (INSERT, UPDATE, DROP) rejected — only SELECT is allowed
- File exceeds 50 MB inline limit — must use scratch upload key from /v1/cputools/upload-url
- Base64 payload exceeds 4 MiB inline limit
- Malformed SQL syntax returns a parse error
- Unsupported file format (only csv and json accepted)
- Referencing a table name other than `input` causes a query error
- Insufficient balance to cover bytes scanned
