How this service works
Recent earthquakes from USGS, newest first: magnitude, place, time, depth, coordinates, tsunami flag and alert level. Filter by minimum magnitude, days back (max 30) and a radius around a point. Public domain data.
Output
A JSON object containing: the number of days queried, the count of matching events, and an array of earthquake events each with latitude, longitude, place description, depth in km, magnitude, tsunami flag, USGS alert level, USGS event page URL, and UTC timestamp. Also includes the data source attribution (USGS public domain) and the timestamp when the data was fetched.

Use this endpoint when you need recent earthquake data filtered by geographic area and magnitude, proxied through SiteCheck's pay-per-call API rather than calling USGS directly — ideal for agents that already use SiteCheck for other capabilities and want a single billing/auth flow. Prefer this over raw USGS FDSN queries when you need a simple JSON response without dealing with GeoJSON parsing.
Side effects
- No events returned if no earthquakes match the filters in the given window
- Invalid lat/lon values may cause empty results or errors
- radiusKm too small may return zero events in low-seismicity areas
- days exceeding 30 or limit exceeding 50 rejected as out of range
- USGS upstream outage may cause request failure or stale data
