Use this endpoint when you need to resolve a company's Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) from the authoritative GLEIF register by name, particularly for compliance workflows (KYC, AML, regulatory reporting). Prefer this over general company search endpoints when LEI codes or entity status are specifically required, or when you need to match on legal name rather than trading name.
Side effects
- No matching entities found for the given name — returns empty results array with count 0
- Company name too short (under 2 characters) — validation error
- Limit out of range (below 1 or above 20) — validation error
- Invalid ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code — validation or empty result
- GLEIF upstream service unavailable — may return 5xx error
- Ambiguous name matching many entities — results truncated at requested limit
