How this service works
Exchange rates against the US dollar for the ~30 currencies published by the ECB (EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CNY, INR, BRL, MXN, TRY, ZAR...), with date and 1-month change. Cross rates calculated from ECB reference rates.
Output
A JSON object containing an array of currency records, each with the country code, ISO currency code, date of the rate, units per USD, and monthly percentage change (positive = currency depreciated vs. dollar). Also includes the total count of currencies returned and the BIS data source identifier.

Prefer this over real-time tick-level FX feeds when official monthly BIS data is acceptable.
Side effects
- Invalid or unrecognized ISO currency codes return empty results or an error
- Network timeout if BIS upstream is slow
- If currencies parameter is malformed (not comma-separated), may return an error or default to all currencies
- Rate data may be as of last monthly BIS publication, not real-time intraday
