How this service works
Find US attorneys by name in CourtListener's RECAP corpus (PACER-derived attorney directory). Query by name (case-insensitive prefix match: "Jennifer Lee" matches "Jennifer Lee Pasquarella" but not "Sara Jennifer Lee"), optional firm/contact-text contains filter, and limit (1-50, default 10). Returns id, normalized name, parsed firm + mailing address, phone, email, fax, count of known (docket, party) appearances, and canonical CourtListener URL per match. Use for opposing-counsel research, conflict checks, and "who has filed this type of motion in this district" queries. Underlying data is public domain (PACER filings); the directory itself is maintained by Free Law Project.
Output
A list of up to 50 matching attorney records, each with: numeric id, normalized full name, parsed firm name, mailing address, phone, email, fax, count of docket appearances, count of party appearances, and a canonical CourtListener profile URL.

Use this endpoint when you need to find US federal court attorneys by name from public PACER-derived records, perform opposing counsel research, run conflict checks, or retrieve attorney contact information and appearance history. Prefer this over general web search when you need structured, normalized attorney data with court appearance counts and direct CourtListener profile links.
Side effects
- Name query shorter than 2 characters returns a validation error
- Limit outside 1-50 range returns validation error
- No matching attorneys found returns empty result set
- Firm filter too restrictive combined with name prefix yields zero results
- Network or upstream CourtListener API outage returns 5xx error
