It is ideal for lightweight agent workflows that need to verify domain existence, resolve IPs, or inspect mail server configuration on demand. It uses Cloudflare's reliable DoH infrastructure, making it more trustworthy than ad-hoc DNS lookups. Prefer it over raw DNS libraries when operating in a sandboxed agent environment that cannot make arbitrary UDP calls.
Side effects
- Domain does not exist in DNS — returns exists: false with empty records
- Invalid domain string format — rejected by input validation (maxLength 253)
- No records of the requested type found — returns empty array for that record type
- Cloudflare DoH upstream timeout — may return an error or partial result
- Network error reaching the API — HTTP 402 payment required if payment header missing
