Choose this endpoint when you need news-specific results (not general web pages) from Brave's independent index with privacy-first principles. Prefer over general web search when the user explicitly wants news articles, headlines, or recent journalism. Use the freshness parameter to narrow to breaking news (past day) or recent coverage (past week/month). Prefer over Google News API when privacy and independence from Big Tech are priorities.
Side effects
- Empty results if query is too niche or no recent articles exist for the given freshness window
- Invalid freshness value (must be 'pd', 'pw', 'pm', 'py', or a valid date range) returns an error
- Count out of range (must be 1-50) may return an error or be clamped
- Invalid country code returns an error or falls back to global results
- Network timeout or service unavailability returns a 5xx error
