Prefer this over scraping SEC.gov directly, as results are cached for speed. Best suited for U.S. publicly traded companies registered with the SEC.
Side effects
- No matching company found — hits array is empty and match is false
- Invalid or malformed query parameter — may return empty results
- SEC EDGAR data source temporarily unavailable — cached data may be stale
- Rate limit exceeded — 402 payment or quota error
- Unknown ticker or private company not listed on EDGAR — no CIK available
