Choose this endpoint when you need to resolve ENS names or Basenames (*.eth, *.base.eth) to on-chain addresses or retrieve rich profile metadata including social handles and URLs. It supports both forward (name → address) and reverse (address → name) lookups and returns structured JSON including text records. Prefer this over raw RPC calls when you want a clean REST API without managing Web3 provider connections.
Side effects
- Name not registered or expired — resolved:false returned
- Address has no primary ENS name set — reverse_primary_name is null
- Invalid ENS name format — query parameter rejected
- ENS resolver contract unreachable — upstream RPC error
- Basename not yet indexed — may return stale or empty text records
