Prefer this over general web search when you need structured, authoritative FEC data (e.g., to cross-reference with campaign finance records). It is US federal candidates only — not useful for state or local races.
Side effects
- No candidates found for the given name fragment — returns empty results list
- Invalid state code (not two-letter) may return an error or no results
- Limit parameter outside 1-100 range may be rejected
- Ambiguous or very common names may return up to the limit with no guarantee of the intended candidate
- FEC data may lag behind very recent candidate filings
