How this service works
Find Legal Entity Identifiers by legal name, optionally filtered to an ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country. Returns matching entities with their LEI, verified legal name, registration status, jurisdiction and city/country - the reverse of lookup, for when you have a company name but need its authoritative LEI and legal identity.
Output
Returns a list of matched legal entities (up to 25), each containing their LEI code, verified legal name, registration status (e.g. ISSUED, LAPSED), jurisdiction, and city/country of legal address. Data is sourced from the GLEIF registry under CC0 license.

Ideal for KYC onboarding, regulatory reporting (MiFID II, EMIR, Dodd-Frank), and due diligence workflows where you need GLEIF's verified identity data. Prefer this over generic company search APIs when LEI accuracy and regulatory-grade data sourced directly from GLEIF are required.
Side effects
- No matches found if the company name is misspelled or too generic
- Multiple ambiguous results when company name is common — requires country filter to narrow down
- Invalid country code causes validation error
- Name shorter than 2 characters rejected
- Lapsed or transferred LEI records may appear in results — status field must be checked
- GLEIF data lag: newly registered entities may not appear immediately
