How this service works
Reads the dated futures of Deribit for BTC or ETH and compares each expiry with a spot price whose source is always named in the answer, because a basis computed against a different venue than the future is a different number. By default the Deribit index is used, which sits on the same venue as the contract; choosing a spot venue instead is possible and is then flagged, including the case where that venue quotes in USDT while the contract settles in USD. Annualization only happens above one day

Returns one row per matching Deribit expiry containing: the expiry date, the futures price, the spot price (with source clearly labeled), the absolute basis, the annualized basis (omitted for same-day expiries), and a flag if the spot source is a different venue or quotes in USDT rather than USD.

It is purpose-built for crypto basis trading analysis on Deribit and handles USD/USDT discrepancy flagging automatically. Prefer it over generic ticker or order-book endpoints when the goal is term-structure or carry analysis, not just price lookup.
Side effects
- Invalid symbol format (must be BTC/USD or ETH/USD case-insensitive) returns a validation error
- Specific YYYY-MM-DD date with no open Deribit contract on that date returns empty or error
- Deribit API unavailability causes fetch failure
- Selected spot exchange (e.g. Kraken) is temporarily unreachable, preventing cross-venue basis computation
- Bybit or OKX spot returns USDT price — endpoint flags this but still computes; callers should be aware of the USD/USDT discrepancy
