Choose this endpoint when you need references, citations, and related papers for a seed paper all in one call — avoiding separate lookups for each. It is especially valuable when you want a deduplicated, uniformly formatted table ready for downstream use without stitching together multiple API responses. Prefer it over the sibling 'Citations, References, Cited-By' endpoint when you also need semantically related work included, or over 'Academic Paper Search' when you already have a specific seed paper in mind.
Side effects
- Unrecognized seed ID (invalid DOI, arXiv ID, PMID, or OpenAlex ID) returns an error or empty result
- Topic query returns no matching seed paper
- Rate limiting or payment failure (x402 payment required but not processed) blocks the call
- maxItems out of range (must be 1–25) causes validation error
- Ambiguous topic query returns an unintended seed paper
