Prefer this over broader market data services when you need a lightweight, per-symbol lookup rather than bulk or historical data.
Side effects
- Invalid or unsupported ticker symbol — returns error or empty quote object
- Symbol not listed on NYSE/NASDAQ/AMEX — endpoint covers US equities only, not OTC or international
- Market closed or pre/post-market hours may affect real-time data availability
- Omitting the tier parameter defaults to 15-minute delayed data, which may not be suitable for time-sensitive use cases
- Payment failure via x402 protocol — call rejected if USDC payment not processed
- Rate limiting or network timeout if too many requests are made rapidly
