How this service works
Search 250M+ scholarly works (OpenAlex — successor to Microsoft Academic Graph). Pass `search` and/or `filter` (comma-joined, e.g. from_publication_date:2024-01-01,is_oa:true,cited_by_count:>100), optional `sort`, `page`, `per_page`. Returns metadata + abstracts + citation counts + OA links. The citation-graph layer kadec0/papers lacks.
Output
Returns a list of scholarly work records from OpenAlex, each including title, abstract, authors, publication date, journal/venue, citation count, DOI, and open-access URL where available. Results are paginated and can be sorted by citation count, publication date, or relevance.

Choose this endpoint when you need to search the full OpenAlex corpus of 250M+ scholarly works with rich filtering (date ranges, open-access status, citation thresholds), citation counts, and abstract access. Prefer it over web search for academic literature discovery, citation analysis, or building research summaries. It has broader coverage than PubMed (not limited to biomedicine) and includes the citation-graph layer absent from some alternatives.
Side effects
- Invalid filter syntax (e.g. malformed filter key or value) returns an error
- No results found for highly specific filter combinations
- Rate limiting or payment failure if USDC balance is insufficient
- Empty search and filter fields return an error or unfiltered results
- Misspelled field names in sort or filter silently ignored or cause API error
