Prefer over generic ChatGPT chat when you need web grounding and citations, or when you need Microsoft Copilot's specific reasoning or GPT-5 smart mode. Use over a plain web search when you want synthesized, conversational answers rather than raw search results.
Side effects
- Invalid or unsupported country code returns a localization error or falls back to default (us)
- Missing message field causes a validation error
- Invalid conversation_id may start a new conversation instead of continuing the existing one
- Web access failure may result in incomplete or stale citations
- Rate limiting or quota exhaustion returns a 402 or 429 error
- Invalid mode value (not CHAT, REASONING, or SMART) may cause a parameter error
