Choose this endpoint when you have geographic coordinates (lat/lng) and need to identify the place, business, or address at that location — especially when you want rich Google Maps business metadata (ratings, categories, website, attributes) beyond a simple address string. Prefer this over forward-geocoding endpoints when you are starting from coordinates rather than a name or address.
Side effects
- Invalid or out-of-range lat/lng values return an error or empty data array
- Coordinates in the middle of an ocean or unpopulated area may return no results
- Unsupported region or language codes may default to base behavior or return an error
- Rate limiting or quota exhaustion returns a 402 or 429 status
- Truncated field projection if 'fields' parameter contains invalid field names
