Crypto market sectors ranked by market cap. Returns categories (e.g. DeFi, Layer 2, meme coins, AI, real-world assets, stablecoins) with total market cap, 24h market-cap change %, 24h volume, top coins and last-updated timestamp. For sector rotation, narrative tracking, market-structure analysis and thematic screening agents.
Output
A ranked list of up to 100 cryptocurrency market categories, each containing: category name, total market cap (USD), 24h market cap change percentage, 24h trading volume, an array of top constituent coins, and a last-updated timestamp. Results are sorted by market cap descending.

Prefer this over individual coin price endpoints when the question is about a category or narrative rather than a specific token.
Side effects
- limit out of range (must be 1–100) returns validation error
- payment failure or missing x402 header returns 402 Payment Required
- upstream data provider (CoinGecko) outage may return 503 or stale data
- empty result set if categories data is temporarily unavailable
