How this service works

Returns JSON with currency exchange rates: official ECB euro reference FX rates (free at ecb.europa.eu) for about 30 currencies, rebased to any base as cross rates, with optional conversion for 0.005 USDC per call. Use this endpoint when you need official ECB euro reference rates for ~30 major fiat currencies for accounting, reporting, or end-of-day financial reconciliation purposes. Prefer this over live forex APIs when regulatory or audit-grade official rates are needed and intraday precision is not required. Not suitable for live trading quotes, intraday rates, or cryptocurrency pairs.
Side effects
- Unsupported currency code returns an error or empty rates (ECB covers ~30 currencies, not all ISO 4217 codes)
- Rates are only updated once per ECB business day — stale if requested before the daily ECB publication
- Network/gateway timeout may occur given ~1500ms p95 latency
- Invalid ISO 4217 format (not 3 alpha chars) rejected by schema validation
- Amount of 0 or negative rejected (exclusiveMinimum: 0)
- Crypto or exotic currency pairs not available — ECB does not publish those
