Use this endpoint whenever an AI agent is about to pay an unfamiliar or untrusted x402 endpoint and needs a pre-spend safety check. It is the right choice when you need parsed payment metadata (price, network, payTo) without triggering an actual payment, or when you want risk flags and on-chain reputation data for a payTo address on Base. Prefer this over a raw HTTP probe because it handles x402 protocol parsing, caching, quality scoring, and risk assessment in one call.
Side effects
- Target URL is not an x402 endpoint — returns no payment info, low quality score
- Target endpoint is offline — returns liveness: false with latency timeout
- Malformed or non-HTTPS URL — returns validation error on input
- Cached probe is stale or unreachable — may return older liveness data up to 5 minutes old
- PayTo address has no on-chain history — risk flag raised but not a hard failure
