Use this endpoint when you need to find a company's LEI by searching its legal name — ideal for KYC/AML workflows, trade reporting, regulatory compliance, or entity matching tasks where you have a business name but need a verified LEI. Prefer this over direct GLEIF API calls when you need a pay-per-use, agent-friendly interface with structured provenance metadata. Use it before the LEI resolution endpoint when you do not yet have the LEI code.
Side effects
- No matching LEIs found for an obscure or misspelled entity name — returns empty normalizedResult array
- Name too short (under 2 characters) or too long (over 120 characters) triggers input validation error
- GLEIF upstream API unavailability causes retrieval failure
- Ambiguous or common names may return many partial matches requiring further filtering
- Payment not fulfilled results in 402 response before query is processed
