How this service works
SEC EDGAR full-text search over all filings (2001+). Pass `q` (quote for exact phrase) + optional `forms` (comma-separated: D = private fundraises, C/C-AR = Reg CF financials, 1-K/1-SA = Reg A financials, 4 = insider trades, UPLOAD/CORRESP = SEC comment letters), `startdt`/`enddt` (YYYY-MM-DD), `from` (pagination offset). Hits include the filer, date, and {accession}:{filename} ids for edgar/document.
Output
Returns a list of matching filing hits, each including the filer name, filing date, SEC form type, and document identifiers (accession number and filename) that can be used to fetch the actual filing document via the EDGAR archives endpoint.

Use this endpoint when you need to locate SEC filings by keyword or phrase content across the full text of all EDGAR documents since 2001, especially when you don't know the specific company CIK or filing accession number. Prefer it over entity search when the goal is content discovery rather than looking up a known registrant. It is particularly powerful for finding Form D private fundraises, Reg CF financials, insider trades (Form 4), or SEC comment letters mentioning a specific term.
Side effects
- Empty results if query terms are too specific or misspelled
- Rate limiting or timeout for very broad queries returning thousands of hits
- Invalid form type codes result in no matches or errors
- Date format errors if startdt/enddt are not in YYYY-MM-DD format
- Pagination gaps if `from` offset exceeds total result count
- Exact-phrase searches (quoted) return no results if phrase does not appear verbatim in filings
