General-purpose full-text search across every SEC filing since 2001. Find any phrase in any filing - material-weakness language in 10-Ks, going-concern in 10-Qs, "Russia" exposure across all forms. Supports form-type, CIK, US-state, and date-window filters. Source: EDGAR full-text search (efts.sec.gov).
Output
A list of SEC filing hits matching the query phrase, each including the company name, CIK, form type, filing date, and a link to the filing on EDGAR. Results are ordered by relevance and capped at the requested limit (default 25, max 100).

Particularly valuable for finding rare or emerging disclosures across thousands of companies simultaneously.
Side effects
- Missing required 'q' parameter returns a 400 error
- Invalid form type string may return zero results rather than an error
- Very broad queries with no filters may return thousands of matches but only up to 100 are returned
- Invalid state code or CIK silently returns empty results
- EDGAR backend downtime may cause 502 or timeout errors
- Queries without quote-wrapping return broad keyword matches rather than exact phrases
