Answer a question from the live web with citations, no LLM so nothing is hallucinated: Google's featured snippet / knowledge panel when there is one, plus the best-matching quoted passages from the top pages read in full, each with its URL, and related questions. Confidence high / medium / low. An Exa-answer / Perplexity-style call, with quotes you can check.

Choose this endpoint when you need a factual, verifiable answer from the live web with zero hallucination risk — especially when citations and quoted passages matter (fact-checking, journalism, compliance). Prefer it over raw search endpoints when you want a synthesized answer, not just a list of links. Prefer it over LLM-based answer endpoints (Perplexity, Exa Answers) when you need verbatim quoted evidence you can audit. Use instead of the sibling Web Research endpoint when you want a single direct answer rather than full-page markdown from multiple sources.
Side effects
- Query returns no featured snippet or matching passages — answer may be empty or low confidence
- Domain restrictions (includeDomains/excludeDomains) too narrow, yielding no usable results
- Freshness filter (e.g. 'hour') too strict for the topic, resulting in no recent matching pages
- Ambiguous query phrasing leads to off-topic results and low confidence
- Network or upstream Google Search outage causes 5xx error
