It is preferable to web scraping or third-party aggregators because data is sourced directly from Companies House and is marked as live freshness. Choose this over the accounts-specific sibling endpoint when you need the full company profile rather than just filing/accounts status.
Side effects
- Invalid or non-existent company number returns an error or empty data
- Company number formatted incorrectly (e.g. missing leading zeros) may fail to match
